The Top-of-the-World Highway Gold Rush Tour offers travel over the Taylor, Alaska/Canadian & Top-of-the-World Highways. Learn the history and see the mile marker at the end of the Alaska/Canadian (Al/Can) Highway at Delta Junction's Visitor Center, visit a great bakery/grocery store while in Delta. A lunch stop is provided at Tok, the gateway community to Alaska. Visit the small mining community of Chicken, AK (population 39), the scenic 40-Mile (gold) Mining District and historic gold dredge. Cross the mighty Yukon River via ferry accessing the boardwalk community of Dawson City in the Yukon Territory.

 

 

In Fairbanks be sure to allow 2-days before or after the tour to enjoy the University of Alaska Museum of the North and Large Animal Research Center herds of reindeer and musk ox and Georgeson Botanical Gardens with giant, vibrant flowers grown under the midnight sun.

 

 

Visitors can canoe or kayak the Chena River through the heart of Fairbanks to pubs, hotels, restaurants and attractions situated along the river, enjoy a sternwheeler dinner cruise or tour on the river.

 

 

Visit Mary Shields, first women to complete the Iditarod Sled dog race, in her log cabin home in the hills above Fairbanks. Meet her team, hear about racing in the Iditarod, Yukon Quest and in Sibera.

 

While in Dawson City allow time to enjoy dinner and follies in turn-of-the-century saloon/casinos. Walk the boardwalk streets to museums and galleries that feature Robert Service poetry reading & gold rush heritage.  Visit shops housed in false-front buildings surviving since gold-rush times. Take time to visit one of the many gold camps surrounding Dawson or walk to the Provincial Park and see carcasses of paddle-wheel boats from years gone by.
